As the federal government intensifies its exploration and implementation of Artificial Intelligence, several pivotal and interconnected themes are becoming increasingly prominent including strategic process automation and sophisticated predictive analytics. Agencies are increasingly harnessing AI-powered forecasting to anticipate future trends, optimize resource allocation, proactively identify risks, and enhance decision-making across diverse domains, from logistics and resource management to threat assessment and citizen services.
In addition, realization is crystallizing that robust partnerships, encompassing both internal cross-agency collaboration and strategic engagements with external vendors, are not only merely beneficial but absolutely essential for successful and scalable AI adoption. These collaborations bring critical expertise, specialized technologies, diverse perspectives, and the agility required to navigate the complexities of AI implementation within the unique constraints and opportunities of the public sector.
Fielded from November to December of 2024, GovExec’s Insights and Research Group surveyed 450 federal civilian and defense employees predominantly in IT and program management roles to understand how their organization is using AI today and their plans to scale AI adoption in the future.
