DISA Picks Data and Wireless services off Networx
The Defense Information Services Agency has announced that it has selected two vendors to provide wireless and data services to the Department of Defense under the GSA's Networx Universal federal telecommunications program.
AT&T was selected as the prime vendor for Frame Relay services. MCI's Verizon Business was selected as an alternate "for cases where diversity is required," according to an official agency announcement.
Verizon Business was also selected for Asynchronous Transfer Mode Service (ATM), Internet Protocol Service (IP Svs), Wireless and Point-to-Point (Private Line), and AT&T was selected as the alternate for those services.
The Networx Universal award gives these vendors the opportunity to provide a full range of data services to DOD throughout the United States and abroad. The estimated value of the award for all of DOD is approximately $94 million per year, based upon FTS 2001 spending in FY07.
The Networx program contracts all have four base years with three two-year options. GSA has awarded these two acquisition vehicles, Networx Universal and Networx Enterprise, to replace the FTS2001 and FTS2001 Crossover and federal Wireless contracts.
