The Army has listed the Cisco Unified Wireless Network package on its Information Assurance Approved Products List. The company said the Army Information Systems Engineering Command conducted the evaluation.
The Unified Wireless Network package consists of a set of wireless local-area network controllers, access devices, and software for WLAN management and intrusion detection. The system can manage thousands of Wi-Fi clients and can be used to set up a network in a theater of operations for an activity such as a field maneuver or conference.
The evaluated package included Cisco LAP1131 and LAP1242 802.11a/b/g wireless access points, 4400 series WLAN controllers, a Wireless Services Module for Cisco Catalyst 6500 series switches, and wireless control system management software.
The Army has mandated that its organizations only buy information assurance products that appear on the list.
