The Sierra Army Depot in northern California has launched a new inventory tracking system from Savi Technology designed to cut operational costs and improve efficiency.
The Depot Total Asset Visibility and Inventory Management System is built on Savi’s SmartChain Enterprise Platform and its Asset Management Application, company officials said. The two products furnish real-time information about supplies using radio frequency identification tags, they said.
The automated inventory tracking system is designed to reduce the number of hours personnel spend searching for containers, major supplies and asset inventory. In addition, the system provides automated alerts to keep personnel abreast of medical supplies that must be stored and maintained under controlled conditions before distribution.
Orders and initial sustainment of the tracking system total $5 million to date.
