Officials at the Defense Information Systems Agency are working to develop a future strategy for the fiscally challenged Defense Knowledge Online portal, reports Federal News Radio.

DISA officials hope to make a decision in the next few weeks about how to keep DKO moving forward with a reduced budget, Tony Montemarano, DISA component acquisition executive, said during a Jan. 30 panel discussion sponsored by AFCEA’s Washington, D.C., chapter.

DKO, which is based off the Army Knowledge Online portal, was established to serve as a secure portal for all service personnel, their families, reservists and retirees to meet a variety of needs including human resources tasks, collaboration tools, e-mail and more.

Nevertheless, DKO remains on track to meet its June milestone to implement some of the Net-Centric Enterprise Services, Montemarano said.
