Two up for top information warfare posts

President Barrack Obama has nominated Maj. Gen. Dennis L. Via to head up Army Command, Control, Communications and Computer (C4) Systems and Maj. Gen. William T. Lord to serve as chief of warfighting integration for the Air Force, the Defense Department announced May 12. Both nominations include promotion to lieutenant general.

If approved, Via would serve as director for C4 Systems, J-6, Joint Staff, in Washington, D.C., the DOD said. If Lord’s nomination is approved, he would serve as chief for warfighting integration and chief information officer, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force, Pentagon.

Via is currently commanding general for the Army Communications-Electronics Life Cycle Management Command at Fort Monmouth, N.J. As such, he is responsible for a global force of more than 10,000 military and civilian personnel responsible for managing C4 intelligence, surveillance and response systems for all realms of Army warfighting. Those areas include fire support, air defense, intelligence, tactical radios, satellite communications and the warfighter information network.

Lord is currently commander of the Air Force Cyber Command at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., where he is responsible for establishing and maintaining cyberspace as a key domain for Air Force operations. One of his key responsibilities is to establish an entity that will be responsible for organizing, equipping and training combat forces to operate in cyberspace.
