Army gets more WIN-T terminals

General Dynamics Corp. will furnish a large number of additional satellite terminals to the Army to support its next-generation tactical communications network.

General Dynamics Corp. will furnish a large number of additional satellite terminals to the Army to support its next-generation tactical communications network under a $119 million contract option.

Under the contract, General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies will supply the Army with 293 satellite transportable terminals to the Army for the Warfighter Information Network-Tactical program, company officials said today.

The contractor also will provide six satellite communications vehicles and 534 Ka-band upgrade kits and spares. The vehicles, called unit hub SATCOM trucks, deliver Ku-band or Ka-band access and additional modem capacity. All of the new equipment is interoperable with satellite communications equipment currently used by the Army.

The Army ordered the additional terminals and equipment through the World Wide Satellite Systems delivery order. The latest option raises the value of the contract to $378 million, and represents about half of the hardware that the Army can purchase through the four-year program, the officials said.

General Dynamics SATCOM Technologies of Newton, N.C., is part of General Dynamics C4 Systems, of Scottsdale, Ariz.
