DOD awards $292M network-maintenance contract

Lockheed Martin Corp. has won a $292.7 million contract for continued network infrastructure and maintenance support to the Defense Department.

Under the award from the U.S. Army Information Technology Agency (ITA), Lockheed Martin will continue to provide round-the-clock network operations maintenance, management and security support for all data networks at the Pentagon and the National Capital Region through the Network Infrastructure Service Center, according to a Nov. 2 company announcement.

In 2000, Lockheed Martin won a 10-year Army award to serve as the DOD’s IT provider under the ITA contract. The company was responsible for providing all IT infrastructure and network management.

On March 1, 2009, the Army awarded a six-month, sole-source contract to Lockheed Martin to bridge the gap between the previous and current contracts, consolidating two separate existing awards – the Network Infrastructure Services Operation and the Pentagon Primary Technical Control Facility contracts, according to the Lockheed statement.

The program recently achieved International Organization for Standardization 20000 certification for the ITA Enterprise Transport Management program.
