Burroughs to direct Navy PEO C4I

Rear Adm. Jerry K. Burroughs will take over as program executive officer for command, control, communications, computers and intelligence at the Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command (SPAWAR) San Diego, the Defense Department said earlier this month.

He most recently was chief engineer for SPAWAR San Diego, according to the department's March 4 flag officer assignments.

Burroughs was selected for flag rank in April 2008. His acquisition background includes such assignments as assistant program manager for Unmanned Undersea Vehicles, program manager at the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency and major program manager for the Special Operations Force Undersea Mobility Program. One of his key ashore assignments was as a member of the staff of the Assistant Secretary of the Navy (Financial Management and Comptroller).

After a lengthy career at sea in various officer assignments, Burroughs assumed command in December 1999 of the USS Albuquerque (SSN-706), a Los Angeles Class Attack Submarine. That assignment lasted until June 2002.

Burroughs holds a degree in mechanical engineering from North Carolina State University and also a master of science degree in National Resource Strategy from the Industrial College of the Armed Forces at National Defense University.

PEO C4I is responsible for purchasing, integrating and supporting software applications, tactical computer networks, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance systems for ship and shore commands. The organization manages more than 150 programs and projects for Navy, Marine Corps, joint and coalition forces.
