A Cubic Corp. unit will furnish a new virtual trainer that simulates Bradley Fighting Vehicle crew stations to a prime contractor working with the Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI).

Under subcontracts totaling about $13 million, Cubic Simulation Systems Inc. will provide Oasis Advanced Engineering Inc. with hardware for 15 mobile and 9 fixed-site turret crew stations that simulate Bradley fire control systems, Cubic officials said in a statement this month. The Cubic unit is slated to begin delivering the systems in May 2011, they said.

The Bradley simulators are part of a continuing Army initiative to improve training and accuracy in combat situations. The simulators' crew stations feature high-fidelity components and a visual subsystem that offers thermal imaging and direct optic views of synthetic environments. The simulators also address manual training methods and scoring.

Oasis' contract includes options to supply PEO STRI with as many as 114 virtual trainers over four years to train National Guard soldiers in Bradley Fighting Vehicle gunnery.

The Bradley armored fighting vehicle, which has been in service for nearly three decades, transports troops at high speeds and is well suited to scouting missions. Its weaponry includes anti-tank missiles, a 25-millimeter cannon and a machine gun.

Cubic Simulation Systems is based in Orlando, Fla., and Oasis Advanced Engineering is headquartered in Auburn Hills, Mich.
