Dickinson named Air Force Space Command CIO
Brig. Gen. Ian Dickinson has been assigned to serve as director of communications and information and chief information officer of the Air Force Space Command, the Defense Department has announced.
Brig. Gen. Ian Dickinson has been assigned to serve as director of communications and information and chief information officer of the Air Force Space Command, the Defense Department announced April 2.
He will replace Brig. Gen. David Warner, who is retiring July 1.
Dickinson will be responsible for establishing communications and information policy, plans and architectures as they relate to space systems and cyber defense systems. He will manage key defense satellite programs, such as the Global Positioning System, and two satellite launch programs.
Dickinson is commander of the 81st Training Wing at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss. In that position, he commands 12,000 airmen and civilians and oversees technical training for Air Force officers, enlisted personnel and civilians. Previously, he was deputy chief information officer for the Joint Staff. In that capacity, he was responsible for assisting the joint staff's CIO in programming, planning, engineering and executing information technology matters.
Other joint assignments include director of command, control, communications and computer systems for the Joint Task Force, Horn of Africa, and action officer and executive assistant to the vice director, Director of C4 Systems at the Joint Staff.
In addition to his undergraduate degree from the Air Force Academy, Dickinson holds a master of science degree in computer science from the University of Lowell, Mass. He also is a recipient of a number of major awards and decorations that include the Bronze Star.
The space command is headquartered at Peterson Air Force Base, Colo.
