The U.S. Special Operations Command has awarded a $35.2 million contract to FLIR Systems Inc. to furnish thermal imaging systems for its ground vehicles.
Under the indefinite-delivery, indefinite-quantity contract, FLIR will deliver and install its Talon system on vehicles used by Special Operations Command forces, company officials said June 16. The command already has placed an initial delivery order worth $20.9 million, the officials said.
The Talon is a lightweight, gyro-stabilized, 9-inch turret that offers vehicle crews high- resolution thermal imaging capability in day or night and in any type of weather conditions.
The work, which will performed at the company’s facility in Billerica, Mass., is being done through the Defense Department’s Long Range Ground Mobility Visual Augmentation Systems program.
