Army hires contractor to help with counter-IED effort

The Army has awarded a $20.6 million contract to CACI-WGI to furnish various support services to the military organization responsible for developing tactics and tools to combat improvised explosive devices.

Under the agreement, CACI will provide policy, strategy and IT services support to the Joint Improvised Explosive Devices Defeat Organization, the Defense Department announced Dec. 10.

JIEDDO focuses on how to defeat the devices in the field and also how to disrupt insurgent networks that plant the devices.

The work will be performed in Arlington, Va., and is expected to be completed by December 2014.

The contracting activity is the Army’s Research Development and Engineering Command Contracting Center, located at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.
