Army orders sensors to support Iraq operations

Raytheon Co. will furnish the Army with electro-optical and infrared sensor systems for aerial platforms supporting U.S. forces in Iraq through a $43 million delivery order.

The delivery order calls for Raytheon to provide 57 Common Sensor Payload systems, company officials said Nov. 29. The order was made through an existing development contract.

The Common Sensor Payload system can be deployed on a variety of manned and unmanned aircraft to provide warfighters with accurate targeting, high-resolution and full-motion video that can be used to assess threats and effectively engage targets.

The sensor systems will support U.S. troops participating in Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom as they work to help the Iraqi government maintain a stable civil environment.
