DOD approves requirements for coalition waveform

The military component responsible for the Joint Tactical Radio System has signed off on the operational requirements for a wideband networking waveform that will ultimately enhance interoperability among U.S. and coalition forces around the globe.

Specifically, the Joint Program Executive Office for JTRS approved the requirements for the Coalition Wideband Networking Waveform specification, program officials said Jan. 19.

The new wideband networking waveform will help U.S. and coalition forces exchange secure wideband voice, data and video using software defined radios (SDR) in the land, air and sea domains.

One of the catalysts for the effort is the introduction of SDR programs within partner nations, program officials said.

The coalition networking waveform is expected to improve coordination among U.S. and coalition forces and boost situational awareness for those forces in theater, they said.
