Rumored Army CIO nominee gets official nod

White House nomination is the next step in the confirmation process.

Maj. Gen. Susan Lawrence has been nominated by President Barack Obama to be the next Army chief information officer/G-6, according to an internal Defense Department memo obtained by Federal Computer Week.

The official nomination is the next step in the process for Lawrence to be confirmed to the position by the Senate. It is not clear when a formal announcement will come.

She is currently assigned as a special assistant to Gen. Peter Chiarelli, Army vice chief of staff, and previously was commanding general of Army Network Enterprise Technology Command/9th Signal Command at Ft. Huachuca, Arizona.

Lawrence would replace Lt. Gen. Jeffrey Sorenson, who stepped down as Army CIO on Nov. 4. In the interim, deputy CIO Mike Krieger has been filling in.
