Navy data analysis system to speed target acquisition

The Navy is working on a threat assessment system that will rapidly fuse data from a variety of sources to help intelligence analysts to quickly identify and assess targets, reports Elizabeth Montalbano at Information Week.

Called the Semantic Targeting and All-source Fusion Framework (STAFF), the system will combine various intelligence gathering methods—everything from traditional human intelligence to radar tracks of moving ground targets—and use text and semantic techniques to model and create relationship patterns.

STAFF is designed to cut intelligence analysts’ workloads and to improve their ability to spot targets by automating the data collection and analysis process.
