U.S., South Korea hammer out Global Hawk sale

The United States and South Korea have reached a tentative agreement for the sale to the latter of four Global Hawk unmanned surveillance aircraft, report Robert Wall and Amy Butler at Aviation Week.

If approved by Congress, South Korea would receive four of the Block 301 version of the high-altitude drone configured with an electro-optical/infrared payload, but not the advanced signals intelligence payload, which the United States is reluctant to share.

Other Asian allies that have expressed an interest in purchasing the Global Hawk are Japan and Singapore.
