Navy places order for aircraft mission computers

A General Dynamics unit will deliver additional advanced mission computers for Navy Super Hornet aircraft under a $17.9 million contract.

Under the contract, General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems will deliver the computers for installation on F/A-18F and E/A-18G Super Hornet aircraft, company officials said April 12.

The advanced mission computer provides Super Hornet flight crews with situational awareness and full control of combat systems. It performs general-purpose, input/output, video, voice and graphics processing and also processes high-speed data from the latest sensor technologies.

The company will do the work, which will be completed by December 2012, at its facility in Bloomington, Minn.

The company has manufactured advanced mission computers for the Super Hornet since 2002.
