Army radio program sparks Nunn-McCurdy breach

Army's Joint Tactical Radio System Ground Mobile Radio program triggers the Nunn-McCurdy breach.

In an expected move, Army Secretary John McHugh announced that the rising cost of the Army's Joint Tactical Radio System Ground Mobile Radio program sparked the Nunn-McCurdy Breach, writes Michael Hoffman of Defense News.

Secretary McHugh notified Congress about the breach in a May 13 letter, stating that the program's unit costs buoyed by more than 50 percent due to shrinking radio orders.

According to Nunn-McCurdy legislation, Congress now needs to be convinced by the Army that the radio program is vital to national security and that no better option exists.
