Mobile network at Empire Challenge has the RITE stuff
The Relevant ISR to the Edge is in the spotlight at Empire Challenge 11. The program enables servicemembers, using their mobile phones, to access the data they need, but does it work on the battlefield?
In the midst of the Defense Department’s Empire Challenge 11, the military is seeking new ways to get commanders and warfighters the intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) data they need when they need it through mobile computing devices on the battlefield, reports Informationweek.com.
In the spotlight at this year’s annual event is Relevant ISR to the Edge, or RITE, which enables soldiers via their Androids or iPhones to download from a protected network “relevant” data in a range of formats and from a number of sources, and then, as warranted, use various military apps to access and process the data.
The interoperability demo, sponsored by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense, Intelligence, focuses on emerging technology in ISR, and encourages cooperation within the military’s branches and with other military defense organizations around the globe.
