Navy to reconfigure 8 Fire Scouts bought from Army
Purchased from the Army, the Navy wants to have the unmanned helos up in the air by 2013.
It appears that the Navy cannot get enough of the beloved Fire Scout unmanned helicopter -- quite literally -- and is having to order more from the Army, reports DODBuzz.com.
The branch is purchasing eight more of the choppers that will be converted to “Navy configuration” through a new $42 million contract.
The Navy hopes to have the birds ready for basic flight by 2013, though they could be upgraded at some point in the future with weapons systems.
