Obama issues cyber warfare rules of engagement

President Barack Obama has signed executive orders that set forth the parameters by which the U.S. military can engage its adversaries and conduct routine espionage in the cyber realm, reports the Associated Press.

Signed more than a month ago, the orders state that in some cases military commanders must receive presidential approval before they can retaliate against a physical or cyberattack using cyber means.

The Defense Department, which has been working on rules of engagement for cyber warfare for the past two years, also is working with U.S. allies to craft an international cyber policy.
