Unmanned sailing vessel set for next sea trial

The latest prototype of the experimental Harbor Wing unmanned surface vessel will set sail this September from San Diego in a trial designed to further test its ability to conduct intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions, reports Defense News.

The triple hull vessel, which features a six-story mast, uses a fast and modular sailing platform, and is outfitted with radar, sonar, cameras, collision avoidance system, advanced communications and ISR systems.

The Navy has provided guidance and $10 million in funding to Harbor Wing Technologies for its continuing effort to demonstrate the potential of unmanned surface vessels.
