Army decides MULE no longer meets its needs

The Army plans to cancel the Multi-Function Utility/Logistics and Equipment (MULE) unmanned vehicle, a holdover from the defunct Future Combat Systems program, Defense News reports.

The MULE program was formally terminated in a July 29 Acquisition Decision Memorandum.

The 3.5-ton vehicle was deemed too heavy to meet the unmanned equipment transport needs of dismounted soldiers, which have shifted to include the need for an autonomous vehicle with an air assault capability, states an Army letter to Congress.
