Nation's cyber strategy is 'broken,' USCYBERCOM commander says
The United States' current cyber strategy doesn't properly equip cyber professionals to do their jobs, and it is causing "the greatest theft that we've seen in history," said Gen. Keith Alexander, commander of the U.S. Cyber Command.
The United States’ cyber strategy is “broken” and needs to be repaired, Commander of the U.S. Cyber Command Gen. Keith Alexander said speaking Sept. 13 at the InfoWarCon 2011 conference, reports Defense News.
Instead of proactively seeking to detect attacks, the U.S. sits and waits to respond, all while “the greatest theft that we've seen in history” is taking place, he said, emphasizing that many times attacks have been happening for months before they are noticed.
Alexander said that more advanced tools and a new plan are needed so that cyber professionals are equipped to recognize and stop these attacks immediately.
