DOD axes ground mobile radio portion of JTRS program
The Defense Department pulls the plug on the troubled Ground Mobile Radio portion of the Joint Tactical Radio System program.
The Defense Department is cancelling the largest part of the Joint Tactical Radio System program due to rising costs, reports Bloomberg News.
DOD officials confirmed Oct. 17 that they plan to cancel the Ground and Mobile Radio (GMR) portion of the JTRS program.
The GMR was intended to replace the multiple radios installed in Army vehicles with a single software programmable radio capable of operating a variety of different radio waveforms. The JTRS Joint Program Office said in a statement that it will launch a new program focusing on evaluating, testing and acquiring existing radio platforms.
