Defense companies may be OK after spending cuts

Defense companies that survive broad cuts in the Defense Department's 2013 budget proposal are likely to see their programs continue over the next five years barring more reductions, and cybersecurity programs might get more funding, a top DOD official has said, Defense News reports.

Concerning the companies' futures, Deputy Defense Secretary Ashton Carter said, "I think that's a fair assessment, if there is no sequestration" [of DOD funding], the story said.

Cater said of cybersecurity, "It’s an area we’re not only protecting our investments in, but making bigger investments,” the article said, adding that Carter said he is “still not remotely satisfied with where we are in dealing with cyber.”
