Lawmakers contest Air Force personnel cuts

A number of U.S. lawmakers have gone on record with their opposition to proposed budget cuts by the Air Force that they believe are unfair and detrimental to the Air National Guard, reports Defense News.

The Air Force budget plan proposes to cut 3,900 active-duty, 5,100 Guard and 900 reserve airmen.

House members voiced their opposition to the Air Force moves April 17 when the House Armed Services Committee offered noncommittee members an opportunity to propose legislation for the panel to consider when it marks up the 2013 defense authorization bill later this month, the story said.

The Republicans who argued against the cuts would lose either aircraft or force structure in their respective districts, according to the story.
