DOD, Lockheed to partner on intel system upgrade

The Pentagon's office responsible for maintaining a critical intelligence information sharing system that benefits the military services and coalition partners recently awarded Lockheed Martin a $2.6 million contract for an upgrade to the system's integration backbone, company officials said.

The Distributed Common Ground System (DCGS) Multi-Service Execution Team office awarded the work to the Bethesda, Md.-based contractor to upgrade the DCGS Integration Backbone (DIB), which is the software infrastructure that allows intelligence sharing among military services and coalition partners, the company said.

The DCGS integrates and draws intelligence data from various manned and unmanned intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance sensors and systems, then processes that data into a coherent snapshot of the situation for end users, the company said.
