SOCOM picks contractor for signals intelligence receiver

The Special Operations Command has awarded DRS Soneticom a $10.7 million contract to develop an operational prototype of a signals intelligence (SIGINT) receiver that warfighters can carry into battle and configure to different missions, the Defense Department announced July 6.

The Tactical SIGINT Tool will be a small-form factor, secure handheld and body-worn networked device that furnishes real-time SIGINT and precision geolocation and also incorporates a dedicated communications capability for command and control functions and cooperative geolocation, the announcement said.

The effort is being done as part of the Joint Threat Warning System Ground SIGINT Kit Program, the announcement said.
