JTRS HMS program and its Rifleman Radio now part of PEO C3T

The Army's senior acquisition executive, Heidi Shyu, directed this week that the Joint Tactical Radio System’s Handheld, Manpack and Small Form Fit (HMS) program be transferred to the Army’s Program Executive Office for Command, Control and Communications-Tactical (PEO C3T), effective immediately. The HMS program will be renamed Program Manager, Tactical Radios.

The move is part of the transition of the JTRS program—a hardware and waveform-focused endeavor that has met with success on elements such as the Rifleman Radio but failure on other elements like the Ground Mobile Radio—to the Joint Tactical Networking Center (JTNC), which will focus primarily on the waveforms and network managers, and work with industry to port waveforms to industry developed radios.

Additionally, the Army's General Officer Management Office (GOMO) officially announced the next assignment for JTRS joint program executive officer BG Michael Williamson, who has overseen the transition of JTRS to JTNC. He will become the assistant deputy for acquisition and systems management, Office of the Assistant Secretary of the Army (Acquisition, Logistics and Technology), Washington, D.C.
