NSA certifies pair of General Dynamics high-speed encryptors

General Dynamics C4 Systems has announced that the National Security Agency has certified two of the company's new high-speed encryptors to transfer information at the top-secret level and levels below, the company said Feb. 21.

The two new encryptors are the KG-540A for aircraft and KG-540B for ground-based operations, the company said. The encryptors are designed to securely receive and send large video files, terrestrial maps and other classified information as it moves through government networks and into computer servers designed to store Big Data.

As an example of their ability to handle extremely large data files, both of the encryptors are capable of being able to encrypt and store a file the size of a 25 gigabyte Blu-ray disk in under 6 seconds, the company said.

The KG-540A works aboard large surveillance and intelligence aircraft, encrypting classified information collected during a mission for storage on unclassified disks. The KG-540B protects data stored in ground-based super-computing facilities.
