Raytheon, Thales team on Army helmet mounted display

Raytheon Technical Services Company has won a contract award worth $3.5 million for the engineering and manufacturing development of Common Helmet Mounted Display (CHMD) systems for the Army's Air Soldier Program, the company said Feb. 14. The Raytheon subsidiary is teamed with Thales Visionix on the project.

Under the contract, the contracting team will perform systems engineering to adapt Thales Visionix's Scorpion helmet mounted display for installation on the HGU-56/P helmet for use in Army helicopter applications.

The Army's Air Soldier program seeks to reduce the weight of the aviation life-support and communications ensemble worn by soldiers who work aboard rotary-wing aircraft while at the same time boosting situational awareness with improved heads-up display systems and other advanced technologies, according to the Army.

The contract award was made by the Army's Program Executive Office Soldier. The work will be done in Indianapolis, Ind., and Aurora, Ill.
