Navy orders Raytheon to stop work on next-gen radar
Order stems from Lockheed Martin protest of Air and Missile Defense Radar contract award.
The U.S. Navy said Oct. 23 it has directed Raytheon Co. to stop work on the next-generation Air and Missile Defense Radar program.
The move came in response to a protest filed a day earlier with the U.S. General Accountability Office by Lockheed Martin Corp. related to the $1.6 billion contract award.
Reuters reported that Lockheed Martin’s protest was prompted by the shortcomings in the Navy’s bid evaluation process. A Raytheon spokesman told Reuters its proposed solution would survive the award protest.
The Air and Missile Defense Radar is scheduled to be deployed on Navy Aegis destroyers in 2016.
