Cloud security specialists merge

HyTrust acquires HighCloud Security and its encryption software.

Cloud security specialist HyTrust Inc. said Nov. 7 it has acquired HighCloud Security, a provider of cloud encryption and key management software.

HyTrust said the acquisition strengthens its ability to address cloud security, compliance and data privacy requirement for government and private sector customers. Both companies are based in Mountain View, Calif.

The company added that HighCloud’s technology would enable “cloaked” private and public cloud computing networks as well as hybrid versions. The deal would also strengthen HyTrust’s ability to block access by “privileged users with malicious intent,” data center breaches caused by human error or network misconfiguration along with data security and privacy.

HyTrust specializes in providing software that automates administrative controls in virtual networks. Its focus is on using these tools to secure private cloud networks as well as extending them to “trusted hybrid clouds” and “cloaked” public clouds. The company said HighCloud’s encryption technology will be used to help ensure data security and privacy when customers move among networks.

In-Q-Tel, the CIA’s private investment arm, announced in July 2013 that it was taking a stake in HyTrust that includes a technology development agreement.
