DISA exercises option on C2 modernization

The agency awards Northrop Grumman $53 million to continue work to support joint and multinational operations.

The Defense Information Systems Agency has awarded $53 million to Northrop Grumman to continue modernizing the Defense Department’s  command and control system for joint and multinational operations, the company announced.

DISA initially awarded Northrop a $58 million task order in March 2013 for the modernization work under its Global Command and Control System-Joint engineering support services contract. The extension, an option exercised on that GCCS-J contract, was awarded under the Encore II contracting vehicle.

During the first year of work, Northrop piloted the foundation for the joint C2 concept, completing modules for information sharing across multiple security levels, the company said.

GCCS-J is a command, control, communications, computer, and intelligence (C4I) system intended to support joint and multinational operations through full spectrum dominance, with an interoperable mix of hardware, software, procedures, standards, and interfaces.
