MDA awards $25 million for missile interception modeling
Modern Technology Solutions Inc. will provide algorithms and models to be incorporated into simulations of thee Ballistic Missile Defense System.
The Missile Defense Agency has awarded a contract worth up to $25.5 million for simulation, modeling, algorithms and analysis techniques to simulate the nation’s ballistic missile defenses.
Modern Technology Solutions Inc. will develop foundational models, algorithms and data sets for MDA’s Missile Defense Concept and Technology Development, which will be used in high-fidelity, closed-loop (HFCL) simulations, according to the Defense Department.
MTSI will support areas such as flight sciences, lethality, phenomenology, flight sciences, sensors, algorithms and communications with algorithms and data sets, which will then be used in developing the HFCL simulations of interceptors, radio frequency sensors and electro optical/infrared sensors.
The developed models will then be integrated into a system-of-systems that will represent the Ballistic Missile Defense System (BMDS).
BMDS is an integrated architecture that utilizes of network of ground, sea and space sensors to track and detect incoming missiles, ground- and sea-based interceptor missiles, and a command and control network to link the sensors and interceptors, according to the agency. The system consists of the Ground-based Midcourse Defense (GMD), the Aegis Ballistic Missile Defense system, and the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD).
The indefinite-delivery/indefinite-quantity contract will have an ordering period from August 2014 to August 2019 with an expected completion date of Aug. 21, 2019.
MTSI has worked closely with MDA in the past, having provided executive-level and program office operations support since 2007, according to the company. The company has also provided test and evaluation services for the BMDS program.
