Stratcom and NRO continue space intel partnership
The heads of U.S. Strategic Command and the National Reconnaissance Office signed a collaborative agreement to ensure continued strengthening of U.S. space enterprise resilience.
As part of their ongoing efforts to keep track of objects in space, military and intelligence officials
recently signed on to continue a collaborative partnership aimed at strengthening U.S. space enterprise resilience. At Offutt Air Force Base, Neb., U.S. Strategic Command commander Adm. Cecil Haney and National Reconnaissance Office Director Betty Sapp signed the agreement in late August during the Joint Space Doctrine and Tactics Forum.
Established in January, the JSDTF seeks to increase space collaboration and coordination between defense and intelligence agencies. Intelligence and military officials are increasingly warning of the dangers and heightened contested nature of space operation. Members of industry have seconded this notion, calling for greater space situational awareness.
In fact, just over the past eight months, Stratcom has entered into information sharing and space situational awareness agreements with other international partners in addition to domestic agencies.
The JSDTF emphasis on integration, a release from Stratcom said, will advance the development of tactics, techniques and procedures and better facilitate information sharing.
“Throughout this process we have enjoyed a close working relationship with our intelligence community partners,” said Haney, who, along with Sapp, serves as the co-chair of JSDTF. “Co-signing the terms of reference today serves to codify that relationship, and will ultimately strengthen our resilience in the space domain.”
Participants last month also discussed how to improve operational capabilities in space in line with the 2011 National Security Space Strategy.
