SAIC wins big Cyber Command support contract

SAIC was awarded a prime contract to provide cyber operations support services for the U.S. Cyber Command, the company announced. The contract, however, was not issued by Cyber Command or the Defense Department directly, but rather, by the General Services Administration.

The total value of the contract – including for multiple awardees – is for $460 million. SAIC said it is one of six awardees.

“SAIC is proud to support USCYBERCOM operations and joint mission planning capabilities for the Department of Defense. We are excited to begin work on this critical program and to bring our mission understanding and experience to support and enhance our nation’s cyber defense,” said Linda Messano, SAIC senior vice president. 

GSA confirmed to Defense Systems that the contract SAIC was awarded was the same contract solicitation issued in October. At that time, GSA issued a Request for Information after the Defense Information Systems Agency cancelled a Cyber Command support solicitation, saying that, "The government has determined it is necessary to reassess the needs of USCYBERCOM and to consider whether another acquisition strategy could better meet those needs.”

The contract defined cyber operations as “providing technical expertise to assist in the planning, coordination, and synchronization of OCO and DCO, and operation of the [Department of Defense Information Network]… providing technical expertise during the conduct of assessments of Cyberspace Operations.”

SAIC said it will provide a broad scope of cyber support services under the contract, including new and emerging technologies, knowledge and expertise in the full range of technologies, cyberspace operations, joint operations planning, training and exercises as well as business areas needed to support Cyber Command’s operational mission. Additional tasks under the contract include all source intelligence, research and development, tests and evaluation, SAIC said.
