Marine Corps acquires new ruggedized communications tech
The Marines will provide PacStar 400-series communications modules for vehicle-mounted and dismounted combat operations.
The U.S. Marine Corps is acquiring new mobile, ruggedized communications modules to meet requirements for secure wireless connectivity through its Networking-on-the-Move program.
The PacStar 400, specifically build for harsh combat conditions, is a communications technology for both vehicle-mounted and dismounted operations. The Corps is acquiring the system through a $10 million deal with PacStar.
The PacStar 400-series is a family of small tactical communications modules that includes routing, switching, advanced network services for critical voice, video and data connectivity. It is designed to serve the tactical communication needs of teams that deploy worldwide and have secure communication requirements in austere environments.
“The PacStar 400-Series includes IP routers, switches and servers utilizing virtualized enterprise-class networking functions from industry leading companies like Cisco, Aruba, Riverbed, Palo Alto and more. Programs can use the same technology in theater as they use in headquarters – streamlining support, training and acquisition,” said Charlie Kawasaki, chief technical officer at PacStar.
