AT&T, Verizon and T-Mobile receive $200 million to support military services

Three mobile communication companies, AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile will be working on a joint contract to provide wireless services and devices to the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, Air Force, and other Department of Defense and Federal agencies. These three wireless companies will collaborate to support of the armed forces within the C4I and warfighter communications umbrella.

All three companies will help modernize the technology of the services, with each one taking on more specific work within the defense organizations.

AT&T will be working out of its Hanover, Md., office and focus specifically on the Army’s Warfighter Technology. According to the AT&T, its goal is to “mobilize the warfighter to increase efficiency and boost productivity for mission success.”

Warfighter Information Network-Tactical (WIN-T) is the overall communication network that provides voice and data services to soldiers anywhere in the world.

Verizon, working out of their Basking Ridge, NJ headquarters, will focus on WebEx. According to the Verizon Federal Government Solutions website, WebEx is “a cloud-based platform that’s a one-stop solution to delivering voice, application, and data services.” FedRAMP authorized, WebEx is an interactive collaboration tool that allows groups to engage with one another and share content on Verizon’s extensive, cloud-based network.

T-Mobile, working out of their Bellevue, WA office has not publically defined their role within the government contract.

The contracting activity is the Naval Supply Systems Command Fleet Logistics Center in San Diego, CA (NAVSUP).

Work will be done throughout the United States and is expected to be completed in November 2018. The contract was awarded more than $198 million. There is an option to extend the work, in one year installments, to November 2022. Should this option be exercised the total value of work would reach almost $1 billion. The contract was awarded on October 30, 2017.
