New HCI solution promises hybrid cloud in the field
Pivot3’s Intelligent Edge Command and Control solution is a self-contained, modular computing infrastructure to support defense operations at the tactical edge.
Pivot3, a hyperconverged infrastructure supplier, announced a ruggedized hybrid cloud solution to support defense, intelligence and other field operations at the tactical edge.
Pivot3’s Intelligent Edge Command and Control solution is a self-contained, modular computing infrastructure optimized for analytics, virtual desktop infrastructure and internet-of-things uses cases. Designed for deployment in vehicles, ships or planes, it is resilient to shock, vibration and extreme temperatures. The solution offers users compute and storage scalability for all workloads and enables policy-based replication, automated policy management and multiple encryption options.
To support agencies deploying IoT-enabled devices in the field – from body cameras and sensors to virtual desktops – the Intelligent Edge Command and Control features a space, weight and power (SWaP)-optimized form factor along with NVMe PCIe flash, which can optimize and prioritize applications, mitigating resource contention and management complexity.
While hyperconverged infrastructure is still a relatively new concept for many agencies, the military has been an early adopter because of the ability to put hybrid cloud infrastructure into the field. Other agencies have found value the cloud-like scalability.
Pivot3 said its solution will allow users to add storage and compute appliances on the fly to increase capacity, and quickly provision multiple pods simultaneously -- reducing the time to configure complex architecture and service installation for each unit.
