Tom Nolan is a visiting associate professor of sociology at Emmanuel College. He served 27 years in the Boston Police Department before retiring as a uniformed lieutenant. Later, he served as Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Civil Rights and Civil Liberties at the Department of Homeland Security in Washington, D.C.
